Children’s Media Hub visited Computer Crime Investigation Sub-Unit of Jaffna Police.



Jaffna, Sept 16th, 2025 – Members of the Children’s Media Hub, who launched their campaign for a safe online space for children in September this year, visited the Jaffna Police Division as part of a knowledge exchange program. During their visit, they held a discussion with the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) to better understand efforts being taken to protect children in the digital space.

Opening of the Computer Crime Investigation Sub-Unit at the Jaffna Police Station, declared open to the public on April 25, 2025, under the patronage of the Acting Inspector General of Police.

This Sub-Unit will strengthen the region’s ability to respond to online risks and crimes. Its functions include:

Investigating sexual harassment on social media.

Investigating financial fraud carried out online.

Handling offences under the Computer Crime Act.

Removing fake Facebook accounts, questionable social media posts, and recovering hacked accounts.

Providing technical assistance to regional police stations for digital investigations.

The Children’s Media Hub members interested to facilitate awareness programs at schools and, noting it as a key support mechanism for their ongoing campaign to ensure every child enjoys a safe and supportive virtual space in Sri Lanka
